As a result, you'll have a better understanding of what kind of campaigns will bring in the best results for your particular audience. Once you identify the ideal target audiences, you can use various tools to find out exactly what types of content perform the best. From there, you can narrow down your choices accordingly.
Now imagine if this was done wrong. Let's say you decided to promote Tiger Balm during summer instead of winter simply due to the fact that it sells bath bombs. Well, guess what happened next? People bought bath bombs during summer too! Not only that, but they purchased less expensive versions of the products compared to cold weather months. Why? Because bath bomb sales are seasonal in nature. When people purchase bath bombs in the fall, they tend to spend more money. This means that you end up spending more money overall when you promote bath bombs during warm weather months.

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that anyone can create a website and promote whatever they want. Everyone knows that. Anyone can start selling digital products, whether physical or virtual. Heck, you might already be doing it. So that's nice.
But there are a lot of obstacles to overcome when you're just getting started. Here is a short summary of some of the difficulties associated with becoming successful at affiliate marketing:
- Building traffic to your site(s). Traffic is really difficult to obtain unless you're very lucky. Most people struggle with this aspect of affiliate marketing. Even though there are hundreds of tools available to help drive visitors to your site, finding ways to increase traffic is often the hardest thing to figure out. Not only must you build quality content that appeals to your target audience, you need to ensure that potential buyers discover it easily. Otherwise, you risk spending tons of money on advertising campaigns that ultimately yield little results.
- Getting paid. Like I mentioned earlier, you should ideally spend 1/3 of your overall earnings back into your business. Some people choose to invest everything back into their business, but that isn't necessary. Depending on your specific niche, it may be possible to cut costs elsewhere in order to generate greater returns. This is especially true if you're looking to grow big fast.
- Setting up systems & processes. Affiliates tend to be individuals who prefer to operate alone. Many people think that setting up systems and procedures within your organization is unnecessary and wasteful, but it's essential if you want to scale your business quickly. Without proper systems in place, it becomes incredibly difficult to manage large amounts of traffic and sales efficiently. Having a team of employees dedicated to helping with tasks like customer support, marketing and social media management will allow you to focus solely on creating great content.
- Overcoming doubts. When starting out, it's easy to doubt yourself. Especially if you haven't done anything like this before. Doubts arise from lack of knowledge, self-doubt, fear of failure, inexperience and lack of guidance from mentors and experts. These feelings of insecurity can lead to inaction, which causes you to miss opportunities and waste precious time. Take action anyway. Do what feels natural to you.
Don't forget that there are always options outside of traditional methods of promoting products. One example is using Facebook ads to drive targeted traffic to your site. Or maybe you'd prefer to use Google AdWords to drive traffic to your blog posts. Whatever method you decide to deploy, it's vital that you test it thoroughly beforehand. Use automation software to track conversions, measure ROI and optimize campaigns accordingly. Always experiment. Learn from mistakes. Make adjustments. Keep moving forward.

That means each subscriber would buy 2 things every single month, which totals 30 items x $50 = $1,500 total revenue. So far so good. Now imagine you spent an hour a day promoting those products. On average, you'd spend 15 minutes writing content and 45 minutes promoting. That averages out to 3 posts written/promoted daily, 5 days a week. Let's say you write 1 blog post a week. Then that comes down to 12 blogs per month. Since you already wrote three times that number, it doesn't sound too bad. However, you still haven't promoted anything yet, so you only brought in $300. Not too shabby, huh?
But wait...what if you could sell 10 products instead of two? Well, that changes everything. In order to generate $3,000 in sales, you'll need to bring in 60 products. That means spending 20 hours promoting each product. Again, let's assume you spend half of that time creating content and half promoting. That comes down to 6 hours of promotion a day, five days a week. At least double the amount of time compared to the previous example! But again, what if you doubled both numbers? That's 120 hours of content creation and promotion. To put that into perspective, that equals roughly 24 months working full-time on your website.
Here's another way of looking at it: Say you spent 3 months building your site and getting ready to launch. During that same period of time, you spent 4 weeks producing high quality videos that explain exactly HOW to use the software. Every video is unique and covers different topics. Afterward, you spent two weeks uploading all the videos to YouTube. On top of that, you spent four weeks sending emails to your own email database, explaining why everyone should download the program, and providing links to those videos. When you finally released the program, you sent out press releases announcing its release. Each press release contained links back to your site. By the end of the process, you'd probably spent around 40 hours promoting the program.
In addition to all that hard work, you also needed to create some awesome graphics for the free report included in the package. These images were used throughout the entire campaign, not just once or twice. They were placed on Facebook ads, Ebook pages, etc. All told, you probably invested 80+ hours into this project alone. Oh yeah, and you also created several reports and ebooks to help educate others. All of that combined adds up quickly.
On average, you can expect to see anywhere between $10-$30 per sale depending on the niche. As mentioned above, some affiliates might earn more than that. Some might earn less. Don't worry though. Those who consistently produce high converting offers tend to win out in the end.
However, if you plan on using AdSense, you won't earn nearly as much. Your earnings depend largely on traffic volume. Once you hit 500 visitors per day, you'll begin to see decent results. But if you aren't hitting that mark, you're going to struggle until you fix whatever issue is causing the problem.
