So here's what I've learned about how much people are making on YouTube by just uploading videos and not doing any other promotion or anything else that would take more time than just recording a video. For this example we'll use my own channel as an example since it may be easier for me to keep track of all the data needed.
Also, if you're looking at these numbers and think "Wow! That seems so little!" remember that your income will vary depending upon where you live & whether or not you have ads on your videos (which most popular channels don't). If you want to find out HOW MUCH YOU REALLY MAKE, check out our guide on finding out how much you really make from YouTube monetization.
The average lifetime view count for a typical video in 2012 was 3 million. So let's say that you record a 15-minute video every day over 100 days which means you have 1500 total videos uploaded. In order to estimate earnings, I need to figure out the number of times each individual video gets watched. Here's some basic math to help us understand:
1500 x 3M = 4500 Viewers / Video
4.5 Million viewers watching one clip everyday equals 465 Thousand Watched Videos Per Day
Now let's look at the earning potential based on your popularity ranking within your genre. The top earners make up only around 2 percent of users on YouTube but they account for 50 percent of ad revenues. Let's assume you made $1 per 1000 views for simplicity sake because there are too many variables involved in determining exact figures. Your best bet is to search for similar content creators who already have a high subscriber base and compare their stats directly to yours. This way you can see exactly how much they make per thousand views.
If you were ranked #2,000 out of 20,000 subscribers then you would make approximately $0.087 per 1000 views. However, if you were rank #10,000 out of 20,000 subscribers then you would make approximately $0.43 per 1000 views.
Here's another interesting factoid: Only 12 percent of new accounts ever become "Channels" meaning they reach 5,000 subscribers. And the majority of Channels never grow beyond 100,000 subscribers.
According to Tubefilter, the lowest amount paid for a single upload was $6.25 USD given to user mr_machiavellian. Other sources claim the lowest payout goes as low as $3.00. It actually depends on how long ago the video was posted and also where you live. As far as I'm concerned the absolute lowest I could possibly go would be $6.25. There's no way I'd make enough money posting videos to justify that kind of pay rate. Also, why wouldn't you post under multiple streamers instead of trying to compete against yourself?
Yes, absolutely. Just like any business owner, you should always strive to improve your skills and increase productivity. What does this mean? Well, it means taking advantage of every opportunity available to further develop your craft. One such opportunity comes through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing allows artists to promote products without having to worry about production costs, shipping fees, etc... All those things are taken care of by companies selling said product.
In addition, it gives you access to a larger audience since hundreds of thousands of affiliates worldwide are promoting affiliate links daily. Since your goal is to create quality work, affiliate marketing lets you focus solely on creating great content while still getting paid.
Affiliates earn commissions off sales generated from visitors clicking links found throughout the internet. So essentially affiliates market websites or services using text, images, audio files, video clips, html code, software applications, etc... Basically, any type of media that has been developed into something digital. Nowadays even music is being marketed via online streaming sites.
Another benefit of affiliate marketing is you can choose whatever niche interests you most. Because once again, your goal is to produce excellent work, not to try to compete with everyone else.
One thing to note though, is that affiliate marketers must remain diligent and ethical in their efforts to generate traffic. They cannot engage in spamming, click fraud, false advertising, unethical practices, etc.. Essentially, you can't scam anyone trying to buy stuff from them.
It takes time to build a successful Internet Business. But it certainly isn't impossible. Many famous bloggers started out with 0 subscribers and now they rake in millions of dollars annually. Some of them barely sleep and spend upwards of 80 hours per week working on building their businesses. You might not start seeing results right away, especially if you haven't had success elsewhere. But eventually you WILL succeed.
Well, yes and no. Yes, because it demonstrates that you're able to draw attention to your videos. No, because you shouldn't expect to make big bucks overnight.
As mentioned earlier, YouTube is a free service. Therefore, you should not expect to make huge amounts of cash quickly unless you utilize the power of social networking to spread word of mouth among friends, family members, and random strangers.
There are plenty of ways to drive targeted traffic to your website/channel including article submission, blog postings, forum participation, and others. Once your videos begin receiving regular exposure and interest then you can consider setting up shop with various advertisers. Again, the key is patience and persistence.
You need to ask yourself questions like: Why am I sharing my art with the world? Is it because I truly enjoy drawing pictures and capturing fleeting moments in life? Or maybe I'm hoping that someday someone will appreciate my talent enough to commission me to complete portrait drawings for celebrities? Whatever your reasons are, you NEED to identify them before pursuing your dream of becoming an artist. Otherwise, you may end up wasting years of your precious youth waiting tables, living paycheck-to-paycheck, and feeling resentment toward society.
When you hit 10000 views, you'll notice a significant difference in your overall viewer statistics. Instead of viewing your videos as singular entities, people will start treating your channel as a collection of unique personalities. People will feel drawn to watch your videos simply because they enjoyed interacting with you personally.
And although your ad revenue won't skyrocket immediately after reaching this milestone, you will definitely experience higher levels of engagement. Plus, you can rest assured knowing that your videos aren't going unnoticed anymore. Now, whenever you publish fresh material, you'll get bombarded with notifications telling you that somebody liked what you did.
However, please keep in mind that gaining momentum doesn't happen overnight. It requires consistent effort. Afterall, nobody becomes the next Picasso overnight. It took him 30+ years to perfect his craft. Don't give up hope yet! Stay focused, stay persistent, and continue improving. Eventually you WILL achieve greatness.
This information is extremely useful for aspiring artists seeking employment opportunities, specifically in the realm of freelance illustration. Although the job market continues to suffer, there are several creative outlets offering a variety of options for earning extra income. Artistic endeavors like animation, comic book design, photography, graphic novel creation, web design, logo design, etc... Are just a few examples.
YouTube has become an essential part of millions of people's daily lives. It's where we go when we want to learn something new or just relax after work with some mindless entertainment. But how does one gain popularity and financial success on YouTube? The answer lies in knowing your numbers. We'll be looking at what it takes for someone to hit that magic number of 1000 views on YouTube so they can start getting paid from advertisers.
The amount of money earned by content creators on YouTube varies greatly depending on who you ask — but according to statistics released by Google last year, most channels earn about 18 cents per thousand video views (CPM). That means that for every 1000 view count, a creator will typically earn around 0.68 percent back as profit. This figure was calculated using data provided by over 14 million active publishers, including more than 8 billion videos watched monthly.
That's quite interesting considering there are plenty of popular channels on YouTube that have been running since before 2014 earning less than this. But let's dig deeper into exactly what those figures mean and see which factors play the biggest role in determining whether or not you're going to get rich off YouTube.
If you've already racked up enough followers and fans across social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc., then chances are good you could quickly reach 1000 viewers on YouTube within days. If you don't have any big-name celebrities backing you up, however, it might take weeks or months to reach those goals. In order to understand why, first consider the following questions:
A lot of people subscribe to channels without ever realizing that YouTube Studio offers a way to set monetization options for individual clips or entire series. Using YouTube Studio gives users access to all kinds of tools that help them create better videos while also giving them control over their income streams. For example, setting certain episodes of a show to "monetize" means that you'll automatically be notified whenever anyone watches these specific clips. And once you reach 10K subs, YouTube Studio lets you choose whether you'd prefer to keep receiving 60 bucks/month ($0.60) or 90 dollars/month ($0.90), instead of whatever arbitrary payout the platform decides to offer next.
It should come as no surprise that having a loyal fanbase helps immensely when trying to reach a goal of 1000 views. Having lots of fans online means that even if only a few decide to actually click through to your channel, the rest won't care because they weren't personally interested in watching your stuff anyway. However, things change when you realize that not everyone subscribes solely for the purpose of supporting the creator financially. Some folks may subscribe simply to follow the person behind the scenes, others may tune in to support a friend, family member, colleague, or favorite celebrity. So, if you still think you're likely to earn a decent chunk of cash from your efforts, try promoting yourself outside of YouTube and other social networks. Think about ways to draw attention away from your main page and onto your personal website, blog, or elsewhere. Remember, though, that these methods aren't guaranteed to bring in thousands of hits each day.
Another important consideration is whether or not you currently have your own web presence beyond YouTube. There's nothing wrong with wanting to build a larger fan base, but it doesn't hurt to start small! Try driving targeted visitors directly to your own homepage rather than relying on automated systems like paywalls or ads that appear alongside your posts. Once your viewership grows big enough, you can begin experimenting with more complex strategies that require further investment and expertise.
When building your brand, remember that you always have more power to influence potential customers' behavior than you give yourself credit for. Be sure to focus on crafting strong, memorable copy that speaks directly to your target audiences' needs, wants, desires -- anything that makes their decision making process easier. With the right approach, you could end up converting prospects into paying clients faster than you would expect.
Now that we've established that reaching a large audience is key, let's talk about how to find a large audience. While having hundreds of likes and follows certainly isn't a guarantee of future earnings, it definitely does increase the likelihood of being noticed by advertisers. After all, even if you only had 500 subscribers at the time, imagine what would happen if you suddenly gained 50,000 overnight? At least now you have a fighting chance against competitors who started years ago.
Once you've gotten past the initial barrier of gaining a huge following, it's time to expand your circle. One great way to grow your subscriber list fast is by partnering with influencers. As long as they share similar demographics (and really, maybe interests too!) you'll both benefit from expanding your sphere of influence. To determine which partners fit best, here are a couple quick tips to guide your search:
Check out what other popular creators in your niche are doing. Are they collaborating together? What topics do they cover? Or are they focusing primarily on completely different areas? Find out what works well for them and replicate it. Don't worry about competing against them directly; instead, look for complementary partnerships that allow you to cross promote each other's products.
Try connecting with other influential people in your field via email or direct message. Then, listen carefully to what they say and respond accordingly. Keep in mind that you probably won't hear back from everyone, especially if you're relatively unknown. Just stay positive and continue plugging along. Eventually, opportunities will arise from people who appreciate what you do and feel compelled to share your passion with their own audiences.
So, after all that effort, you finally reached a point where you can get your hands on some cold hard cash from advertisers. Now comes the question: Is there a numerical threshold below which you stop getting paid for your content? According to our calculations based on CPM stats above, the answer is yes. Here's how it breaks down:
1000 Views = $ 0.08 Per View
2000 Views = $ 0.16 Per View
3000 Views = $ 0.24 Per View
4000 Views = $ 0.32 Per View
5000 Views = $ 0.40 Per View
6000 Views = $ 0.48 Per View
7000 Views = $ 0.56 Per View
8000 Views = $ 0.64 Per View
9000 Views = $ 0.72 Per View
10000 Views = $ 0.80 Per View
To put these values into perspective, here are some examples of popular vloggers who consistently pull in higher revenues per view:
Matt Watson: His most recent uploads have pulled in between $1.10-$2.50 per viewer, averaging $1.45 per view. He received his highest payouts during Black Friday week, pulling in a whopping $4.20 per view in November 2018 alone.
Mark Rober: Mark reportedly pulls in anywhere from $3 -$5 per view, although he hasn't uploaded recently due to COVID restrictions.
Jenna Marbles: Jenna is known for her extremely high production quality and frequent updates, resulting in upwards of $6 per view. She averaged $5.27 per view until mid-2020, when she began uploading fewer videos due to quarantine.
As you can tell, the general consensus seems to be that you shouldn't hold out hope for massive profits unless you can prove that you've managed to convert more than half of viewers into subscribers. Your primary objective should be to provide compelling, entertaining content that keeps your fans coming back again and again. Also, don't forget that you can charge a premium price for special features or perks, such as extra comedy skits, additional commentary tracks, or exclusive merch bundles.
There's absolutely no shame in sticking to free content, either. Plenty of successful creators produce excellent material for little to no cost, despite the fact that it often requires greater amounts of planning and resources.
Finally, perhaps the most common question asked by aspiring YouTuber hopefuls is: How much money do you guys actually make on YouTube? The short answer is that it depends entirely on what kind of content you're producing. Obviously, vloggers generally tend to rake in slightly lower sums compared to musicians and actors. But overall, it's safe to assume that most content producers will report somewhere close to the aforementioned average rates of $0.68 per 1000 views.
In case you were wondering, the same principles apply if you're working independently. Achieving the same sort of growth rate described earlier would result in roughly the same hourly compensation rates for independent artists. Of course, there's no guarantee that you'll earn as much if you're not associated with a major label or star attached to your name, but at least you wouldn't be left empty-handed otherwise!
You might have seen some people raving about how they're making millions from YouTube. If so, you probably wonder what's involved in that process and whether or not it is truly possible for anyone to become a successful vlogger/youtuber without any special skills or training. The answer is yes! Anyone with an internet connection and a passion can be a success if they put in enough effort. But there are definitely things you should keep in mind before jumping into this world. The following article will help you understand more about how exactly does one go about becoming famous on YouTube, as well as the importance of building up your audience base.
In order to better explain these concepts we'll use popular YouTuber Jake Paul (also known by his nickname KP) as our example. Let us first talk about how he became such a big name overnight. In case you didn't already know, here's a quick summary of his story:
He started selling merch through eBay back when it was still very new. He then began posting videos on Vine which were viewed over 100 million times. A friend suggested him joining Instagram and within 6 months he had gained over 500k followers. Once he joined Twitter he got over 2 million follows, all while filming short films and uploading them to YouTube every week. Eventually he sold merchandise via T-shirt store Zazzle and later partnered up with tech giant Beats Electronics. Nowadays he has around 10 million subscribers across social media platforms.
Now let's take a look at how someone like Jake Paul could achieve similar results. It takes time, patience, persistence and plenty of hard work. There is no magic formula but if you follow a few simple rules you'll get pretty far. Here's why...
If you want to start earning money online, you've come to the right place. This blog post contains everything you ever wanted to learn about affiliate marketing, blogging tips, traffic generation strategies and tons more. So don't miss out because once you finish reading this entire article you'll never visit another website again.
Below are 4 key steps that will get you closer to achieving financial freedom:
Step #1 - Choose Your Niche And Find Relevant Content
One of the most important aspects of starting an effective content creation business is choosing the right niche. What kind of content are you going to create? Are you planning to write articles, reviews or tutorials? Do you want to record voiceovers or screen recordings? All of those require different skill sets and knowledge bases. For instance, writing requires a lot of research and grammar expertise whereas recording audio usually doesn't.
When deciding on your own unique style, remember to think about what makes YOU stand apart from others and try to incorporate elements of that personality into your overall image. Think carefully about the type of person who'd enjoy your content the most. Ideally, you should aim to appeal to both men AND women since everyone likes something different. Also, ensure your chosen topic is relatively easy to master so beginners won't feel overwhelmed and discouraged.
Once you begin creating useful, high quality original content, other users will naturally share it along with comments and feedback. Keep track of what works best for you and continue producing relevant, engaging stuff. Don't worry too much about competition though. Remember, even seasoned professionals spend years honing their craft and perfecting their techniques. That's why it's highly unlikely that ANYONE can beat YOUR level of popularity unless they're willing to invest thousands upon thousands of dollars just to hire professional copywriters and marketers.
Step #2 - Build An Audience Base & Grow Your Fanbase
Your viewers' opinions matter the most. They determine whether or not your content becomes viral, meaning that it goes "viral" after being shared widely among networked communities. As mentioned previously, having lots of fans helps increase your credibility and trustworthiness. People love watching videos about topics they actually care about and they tend to believe whatever you say. Therefore, it's crucial to develop relationships between yourself and your audience members. Be authentic, genuine and show them that you really DO care about them. Afterall, wouldn't you rather watch something produced by a real human instead of simply an AI algorithm programmed to generate fake engagement statistics?
An excellent way to build up your fanbase quickly is using video sharing sites like Facebook Live, Twitch and Periscope, etc. However, you may also consider signing up for paid advertising services offered by major companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, Verizon, AT&T, etc. To maximize your exposure and visibility, you must advertise your brand everywhere you possibly can. Social media networks are great places to start, followed closely by search engines, email campaigns and word of mouth. Use free promotion methods to spread the news further.
Keep in mind that the number of subscribers isn't necessarily indicative of actual profits earned by the creator. Most channels fail to realize the potential of monetization options offered by certain websites. Instead, focus solely on growing your subscriber count until you reach profitability stage. When you finally hit the jackpot, you'll be able to quit your job and live off commission payments for life.
Step #3 - Monetize Your Product Or Service
There are numerous ways to profitably promote products on various web properties. Some of them include promoting physical items, digital downloads, membership programs, eBooks, software, clothing, jewelry, etc. One thing remains constant regardless of whichever product you decide to sell: you MUST always deliver premium quality content that satisfies your target market. Otherwise, there's literally nothing else you can do to entice customers towards spending money.
Some examples of common types of income streams you can choose from are:
Affiliate Marketing: Whenever somebody clicks on an advertisement placed on your site or purchases some related item from your shop, you'll receive commissions. Affiliates typically refer visitors to merchants' shops and earn commissions based on a percentage of each sale made.
Sponsored Reviews: Companies pay bloggers to produce positive reviews of their products in exchange for compensation. Bloggers review sponsored products and give unbiased recommendations accordingly. The company gets its reputation boosted and consumers see a favorable outlook on its product. At the same time, bloggers gain additional sources of income.
Videos Ads: Sometimes advertisers run ads alongside videos uploaded directly onto specific websites. Users viewing the video automatically click on the ad and purchase the advertised goods. Such advertisements provide creators with passive income since they only charge for hosting the video file itself.
Patreon: Fans pledge monthly donations to support artists -- either financially or emotionally, depending on personal preferences. Creators set prices for subscriptions and offer exclusive perks to patrons donating above average amounts. Patrons who donate large sums regularly end up receiving VIP treatment, which attracts more supporters eager to join the cause.
Payment processors: PayPal, Stripe, Authorize.Net, WebMoney, Bitcoin, Payoneer, Cash App, WeChat Pay, etc., allow individuals to accept credit card payments for virtually anything. Popular payment providers often feature promotions where you can get discounts on selected products if you sign up for a merchant account.
YouTube Partner Program: Partnerships with top brands are essential to boost your channel's popularity. By partnering up with reputable businesses, you can attract new audiences and expand your clientele significantly. Moreover, partnerships enable you to leverage the power of bigger corporations and benefit from increased awareness levels and sales volume.
Sell Merchandise Online: Selling tangible products online provides an opportunity to capitalize on residual income. Stores like Etsy, RedBubble, TeePublic, Cafe Press, ASOS Marketplace, etc., specialize in offering unique merchandise customized according to customer specifications. Additionally, stores allow buyers to easily find sellers and buy specific products at discounted rates.
Start charging subscription fees: Charge recurring monthly charges to loyal clients to maintain steady cash flow. Subscribers appreciate knowing that they’ll continuously receive value from your channel.
Charge extra for private group lessons: Offer private coaching sessions exclusively for select groups of students. Clients prefer learning under experts due to higher chances of attaining lifelong skills.
Step #4 - Learn From Other Successful Entrepreneurs
Achieving success means taking risks and focusing intensely on long-term goals. While mistakes happen, it's crucial to pick ourselves up and move forward despite setbacks. Never forget that you aren't alone in this journey. Countless entrepreneurs have paved the road for newer generations to follow. Take advantage of expert advice and guidance from mentors experienced in your field. Their experience and wisdom will prove invaluable during tough times.
For example, Jake Paul learned early on that he needed to establish himself as a leader. His father encouraged him to stop playing around and show responsibility by helping neighbors clean up local parks and streets. Thus, he developed several leadership roles and responsibilities throughout childhood. Later, he took inspiration from Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Today, he runs multiple multimillion dollar companies, owns two lines of clothing apparel, drives three cars, travels extensively, uses cutting edge technology, and offers motivational speeches worldwide.
It's true that you cannot succeed overnight. Becoming wealthy takes dedication, perseverance and determination. No doubt, it's easier said than done. But if you stick to the aforementioned guidelines, you'll eventually reach your goal. Then you can bask in glory while enjoying the fruits of your labor!
Just follow our battle-tested guidelines and rake in the profits.
