When you're looking at becoming an online entrepreneur, one thing that's important to know is where to start. Choosing the right area to focus your monetization efforts is critical. There are so many different ways to make money online, and choosing the wrong one could be costly. In this article I'll discuss what I think are the three most lucrative niches you can choose from when starting out as an internet entrepreneur or blogger. The truth is, no matter what industry you want to get into, there will be a certain group of people who already use your product or service every day. These people are called "early adopters". They love your products because they see value in using them. So, there are two types of people who buy things like yours, early adopters and late majority. Early adopters are only interested in buying new stuff once it becomes popular, while late majority simply wants to save money by purchasing used items.
Now, let's say you create a great product and decide to sell it directly through an ecommerce site or even build an app that allows users to purchase your product straight away. This means you need to target both groups. You should consider creating an app or website for the early adopter crowd, since they tend to spend more than average consumers, but you should also try to reach out to the late-majority audience too.
This brings us back around to our original question, "what are the top 3 profitable niches?" Well, here's the thing...the top 3 niches don't exist yet! That's why you must look outside of traditional sources such as Google Trends and Alexa rankings. Instead, you need to go deeper and understand what type of person uses your product/service everyday. Once you do that, you can narrow down your search and come up with a few ideas.
Here are some examples of questions you might ask yourself.
"How often does someone use this product?" (eBook readers)
"How much time do people spend reading digital content?" (ebooks)
"Who buys books online?" (Amazon Kindle Store)
"Are there enough people searching 'how to buy'?" (Google Shopping)
These are just some simple questions that you can start asking yourself. And, yes, you may not find answers to everything immediately, but keep pushing forward, and eventually you'll uncover the perfect niche to help increase sales. But remember, finding the perfect niche doesn't happen overnight either. As I mentioned above, you need to take the time to research each individual topic thoroughly. Then after doing so, you'll hopefully find the perfect combination of topics that work together well.
And by the way, I'm going to leave you alone with this thought for today. Bloggers
If you write articles for publication or own a blog, then a niche could revolve around blogging itself. Or maybe you'd prefer to focus on bloggers themselves. Either way, it pays to learn more about it.
Videos
Another possibility would be focusing on YouTube channels, Vimeo accounts, and video streaming sites.
Apps
You could potentially focus on mobile application development platforms like Appcelerator Titanium Studio or PhoneGap. Apps are typically downloaded via iTunes, Android Market, Windows Marketplace, etc.
Websites
There are tons of options for building websites, including WordPress themes, Squarespace templates, Wix, Weebly, and more.

Market Niches are basically categories that people commonly search for. An example of a market niche would be "best home security system," or perhaps "ways to earn extra cash." Although there aren't thousands of niches like these, there are still millions upon millions of searches performed daily across various keywords.
To put it another way, there are billions of dollars worth of revenue generated yearly just from Google Search Ads alone. And that number continues to grow year after year. So, although it seems impossible to pinpoint exact numbers, I feel confident saying that the total amount of money earned annually worldwide from SEO alone surpasses $10 billion per year.
Again, there are dozens of other methods to generate income online, but having a strong understanding of SEO can be vital to getting ahead quickly. In this article, I'll show you what areas are considered "hot" today (and will continue to be) as well as where there's plenty of room for growth. Let's dive into these three questions together so you know exactly which areas to focus on when building out your own online empire.
The first question you should ask yourself about any market is whether it has enough demand to sustain itself long-term. If your target audience doesn't exist and hasn't been growing, then you won't see significant results no matter how much effort you put in.
Even if you've already started making sales, you may still run into problems because people aren't spending their time looking at your product page. Your traffic isn't converting fast enough, or they don't trust your brand enough to buy. This means you must invest more resources into creating awareness for your offer before you start earning revenue. Or you could try another niche altogether.
To find out if your niche is viable, use a tool such as Market Samurai, which helps you research keywords by location and popularity. It lets you quickly pull data on search volume, average monthly searches per month across all regions, and also provides historical trends over the past year. Here's one example using the keyword "digital camera".
After searching for digital cameras, the tool shows us that New York City had the highest number of searches last year followed closely by Los Angeles. The other cities showed relatively lower numbers but each city was above 1 million searches annually. That makes me think that the overall trend is positive, even though the absolute amount of searches in each region varies widely.
If you see a similar pattern, you might consider focusing your attention on those locations instead. But keep in mind that this is just one way to approach the problem. There's no guarantee that targeting specific locales will work out better than others based on your analysis alone.
For instance, you could look at the same data and decide that since New York City is your home base, you'd rather stay close to home and focus your content creation around your hometown. Even if you end up having success in NYC, you probably wouldn't be able to replicate that success elsewhere without investing additional time and energy.
So if you do plan to build an internet presence, why not go big? Why not take advantage of the largest possible pool of potential customers?
I'm going to assume here that you're looking for something to supplement your current income stream. Maybe you're working full-time and would love to spend less time managing your business while bringing in extra cash every week. Perhaps you're passionate about a particular topic but haven't found a platform where you can share your knowledge. Whatever your reason is, you should always aim to grow your existing income streams as well as discover new ones.
That being said, let's talk about some of the hottest niches in 2020. We've compiled a spreadsheet below showing several different categories including products, services, and topics. For each category, we included information on our favorite tools used for researching the niche market, a few examples of successful affiliates who currently operate within the space, and finally, a link to the Niche Site Checker Tool which allows you to check to see if your chosen niche is competitive.
As you can tell, many of these ideas are fairly broad. They include everything from health & fitness supplements to pet care products, and even books & courses related to personal finance.
There are certainly opportunities to earn passive residual income by promoting high quality products and services in these broader spaces. However, I personally prefer to stick to smaller, more focused niches. These tend to provide higher profit margins, easier conversion rates, and require significantly less marketing budget. While these may sound like limiting factors, in practice they turn out to be huge advantages.
Which brings me to my next point...
It's easy to get caught up in the idea of finding the biggest, fastest growing market. After all, that's what everyone else seems to be doing. And that's great if you enjoy watching things explode. Unfortunately, the reality is that most businesses experience a period of explosive growth only to eventually level off again after reaching saturation levels. Sooner or later almost every industry reaches its peak and starts declining.
This is true of all industries except for two - legal and healthcare. Both fields have seen steady growth and expansion throughout recent years. In fact, according to Statista, legal and healthcare were the #1 and #2 fastest growing sectors in the world between 2017 and 2018.
These two sectors stand apart from the rest of the pack due to their comparatively stable nature. Legal cases usually resolve themselves without too many complications, and doctors' offices typically maintain consistent patient volumes year after year. As a result, medical professionals have little incentive to move away from them unless they feel strongly compelled to do so.
On the other hand, if you're interested in a quick buck, you could pursue a hot niche that's experiencing rapid growth. Some of these industries may seem appealing to you, but remember that they're likely to come back down to earth soon. Stick with proven, established industries instead.
When choosing a niche, you shouldn't limit yourself to industry leaders. Instead, you should investigate a variety of options to ensure you land somewhere that feels comfortable.
One thing you can do to narrow down your choices is to examine the types of sites available in your niche. Do you notice a general theme among the websites? What kind of writing style does each site employ? Does every site feature videos or images prominently? Are every site's pages organized similarly? Is every site written in the exact same language? How often do visitors leave comments? All of these details are important clues that help you determine whether a certain niche is worth pursuing.
Another good place to begin exploring your options is by checking out popular affiliate programs. Each program offers unique bonuses and benefits that you could incorporate into your own setup. When you join a network, you can promote their products along with yours and receive a commission for every sale generated.
But wait, isn't affiliate marketing illegal?! Yes, it is. Luckily, you can break the rules legally by operating under your own domain name. You'll still pay commissions to the networks, but you can sell whatever you want. You won't face copyright infringement penalties either.
The truth is that most people view affiliate marketing as a legitimate form of advertising. Because of this, many companies allow individuals to advertise their products free of charge. Of course, you'll still have to follow their terms of service and adhere to any guidelines set forth by the company.
Some marketers believe that affiliate marketing works best with highly targeted audiences. Others argue that it works best with larger audiences because it generates greater exposure. Either way, you should select a niche that matches your strengths and interests.
Now that you understand what kinds of niches you can expect to encounter, it's time to dig deeper. Once you've decided upon a couple of promising candidates, you'll want to learn more about the competitive landscape. A simple Google search reveals hundreds of thousands of competing sites in nearly every niche imaginable.
Fortunately, there's an easy way to identify the best places to start your search. Use a tool called Domain Authority to analyze the authority of various domains in your selected field. Simply enter keywords related to your niche and DA scores for all of the resulting domains will pop up.
A score closer to 90 indicates that the domain is incredibly authoritative. On the other hand, a score closer to 0 suggests that the domain is completely irrelevant.
Once you've narrowed down your selection, you can head directly to the marketplace of your choice to compare the offerings. Remember, you don't necessarily have to purchase a domain immediately. You can simply register a subdomain that points toward your main URL until you secure approval from the hosting provider.
And once you've got your domain registered, it's time to pick a web host. Just like shopping for a domain, you'll want to shop carefully to avoid getting stuck paying exorbitant prices. Try to find a reputable, affordable option that comes equipped with features you actually need.
Finally, it's recommended that you create a compelling landing page for your site. Although the homepage is technically the primary entryway into your site, you should design it with conversions in mind. Make sure that everything encourages users to click through to your secondary landing page.
Your second page should contain valuable information that entices readers to signup for your email newsletter. Finally, your third page needs to lead to the checkout process. By following these steps, you'll maximize your chances of turning leads into profits.
Doing this correctly takes patience and persistence. Over time, you'll slowly increase your earnings.

Let's start by looking at how to find the most popular niches to choose from.
This is perhaps the most obvious question to ask yourself before diving into researching potential areas to target. Which niche is currently dominating the search engine results pages (SERPs)? What sites are people using to research various topics online? How many different websites do people use for searching the web?
It doesn't matter whether you're trying to create informational articles or videos, or even just writing an eBook. There's no reason why you shouldn't pick up whatever language you're comfortable with and write about something related to it. But bear in mind that not every niche is created equal. Some niches simply aren't worth targeting because they won't generate enough traffic to support your business goals. So let's take a closer look at which ones might actually be worth considering.
You may notice that most of the SERPS above have been dominated by social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Google+, Twitter, etc. This means that they're probably very active and highly trafficked. It makes sense then that the most popular niches would be those that offer a lot of engagement opportunities. You could potentially get involved in the conversation around certain trends, news stories, events, etc., and build relationships with influencers who share similar interests. And while this approach certainly isn't limited to social media, it does provide more scope than traditional advertising channels like banner ads, sponsored posts, video ad placements, etc.
So now that we understand what kinds of niches tend to dominate the SERP results, here are some ways to identify them.
Researching the keywords in use across multiple sources including Alexa, SimilarWeb, Ahrefs, etc. will give you insights into the popularity of particular terms over time. For example, you'd expect to see lots of searches for "how to drive" since it's such a common phrase used by drivers everywhere. However, you wouldn't necessarily expect to see so much interest in "drive safe", unless you were specifically talking about driving safety.
Another way to gain insight into which types of niches are popular is by analyzing Google Trends data. By checking out what sorts of queries people are making, you can quickly spot trends based on keyword usage. Here's an example query showing the number of searches for "best diet pills" per month between January 2012 and June 2019. As you can see, the growth in searches was steady throughout 2018, followed by a steep increase leading up to May. That spike corresponds quite closely to the release date of Dr Oz's new book, Eat Clean Get Lean.
Finally, you can compare the average monthly organic reach of several high-traffic blogs & publishers on both Google Search and Bing. For instance, according to Moz, the average monthly organic reach of their top 5,000 ranking domains is nearly 25%. They found that the top 1% of sites had an average reach of 41%, compared to the median site's 13%.
These numbers indicate that there's definitely room for improvement within the content marketing space, especially among larger brands. While it's true that larger companies often have better resources available to them, you can still learn a thing or two from smaller competitors who are willing to experiment with new strategies. Plus, it's never too late to launch a website focused on a popular niche.
Now that you've identified a few popular categories, you should next check out the type of content being shared on Instagram. Using tools like Hashtagifyr, you can easily analyze hashtags and discover which ones are gaining traction. A hashtag typically refers to a short word or term that stands alone, but usually indicates a trend or current event. Popular tags include #selfie, #vlogger, #instagood, #fitness, #foodporn, #adventure, #love, #travel, #fashion, #beauty, #lifestyle, #music, #books, #healthandwellness, #lifehacks, #relationships, #family, #parenting, #weddings, #romance, #funny, #money, #workout, #jobsearch, #dating, #diet, #motivation, #inspiration, #selfcare, #emotions, and many others.
As you can imagine, there's plenty of opportunity to capitalize on these trending subjects. You could either try creating original content about a trending subject (such as a DIY project), or repurpose existing material about a hot topic into a series of images or videos. Either way, the goal is to keep content fresh and interesting for users.
Once again, you don't have to limit yourself to Instagram. Take advantage of the wide variety of content sharing options offered by Pinterest, Tumblr, Reddit, Snapchat, TikTok, LinkedIn, and more. Just remember to stay away from controversial topics that might end up getting flagged and removed. Instead, stick to topics that people love to discuss.
There's no point in spending hours researching a niche that nobody cares about. After all, if you can't sell anything, what's the point of promoting it in the first place? With that said, it's also wise to avoid picking a niche that's already saturated with competing businesses. Chances are, there's someone else out there offering exactly the same product or service as you. Unless you really believe in your idea, it's probably best to steer clear of this kind of competition.
Instead, focus on a niche that offers enough room for expansion without having to compete against thousands of other marketers. Also, make sure you're able to stand apart from the crowd by providing unique value to your audience. Otherwise, consumers will lose interest pretty fast and move onto another brand that promises more.
