For many years now, I have been promoting both types of businesses because there are pros and cons to each option.
I'm going to take this opportunity to explain what are some of those advantages and disadvantages for both options so if you're considering making a switch from one type of business model to another then hopefully my analysis will help guide you towards the right decision based on your individual circumstances.
So let's start with dropshipping first. What exactly does this mean? Dropshipping is when someone creates a product, ships it out themselves, and then uses third party vendors/dropshipper sites to market them instead of doing all of that work themselves. There are tons of different platforms available to drop ship from but here are three examples of popular ones:
1) Amazon FBA - If you've heard about Amazon Fulfillment by Amazon, you know that it allows sellers to create a storefront on Amazon where customers can purchase physical goods without ever leaving the site. It's a pretty well-known method for selling physical items online. The catch? You need to buy inventory upfront before you even begin listing any products. This means you'll be paying for storage space up front and also shipping costs whenever you want to send something new into production. As such, it's not very cost effective compared to other methods. On top of that, the commission rates aren't great unless you're already ranking high enough on Amazon. And finally, since most retailers don't offer free returns, you won't get much return on your investment. In short, it's expensive and doesn't work for everyone.
2) AliExpress - Also known as Aliexpress, AliExpress is China's largest marketplace designed specifically for small businesses looking to sell products overseas. Sellers upload pictures of their products along with details including pricing, description, size, weight, reviews, etc. Then buyers search through thousands of listings every day and place orders directly with the seller via email. It's a really cool way to connect with potential clients who might otherwise never find you. The only downside is that it takes longer than traditional dropshipping platforms due to the lack of automation. Plus, commissions are lower.
3) Alibaba Marketplace - Similar to AliExpress, Alibaba Marketplace is a Chinese marketplace that sells millions of products made by independent manufacturers. Sellers list their products in their stores, set prices, add photos & descriptions, and allow visitors to browse. Buyers then click "buy" on their preferred item(s), pay online, and receive delivery within 3 days! All transactions happen automatically between buyer and seller. It's super fast and easy to setup and manage. However, the commissions are relatively low compared to others. Additionally, the fees required for payment processing and international shipping makes it less attractive than other options too.
Now let's talk about affiliates. An affiliate is simply somebody else (usually referred to as a publisher or distributor) who promotes a certain brand or service on behalf of its owner. These publishers usually earn commissions when users choose to purchase the advertised product after clicking a link provided by the advertiser. Some networks charge per conversion while others give a flat rate for sales generated over a specific period of time. So whether you decide to go with an established company or join a startup network, there are several important things to consider.
